The A&BNI Leaders on Arts Boards professional Development Programme places young leaders and experienced executives on the boards of local arts organisations.

This pioneering boardroom training and placement programme, equips aspiring board members with the practical skills, experience and confidence to succeed. Through expert-led training and personalised support, you’ll build strategic leadership capability, grow your network and be matched with an arts organisation where you can make real impact.
Which Professional Development Programme Is Right For You?
There are two programme tiers. Young Leaders for those in early-mid career and Business Leaders for more experienced professionals.
Programme 1
Young Leaders on Arts Boards
Who’s it for?
For early/mid-career individuals aged between 21 – 35.
The programme includes up to 12 hours of training, which takes place from October – December, with the graduation ceremony taking place in March. Board matching interviews typically take place from Jan onwards.
* This tier includes additional training sessions and guided support.
What’s involved?
Good Governance training sessions introducing the arts sector and practical strategies for effective governance and the legal and ethical responsibilities of non-executive board members.
Designed specifically for this initiative, the programme builds confidence through peer learning and active participation. Sessions are delivered by experienced professionals , H&M Chartered Accountants and Arts & Business NI.

Programme 2
Business Leaders on Arts Boards
Who’s it for?
For professionals aged 36+ , experienced managers or retired individuals.
The programme includes up to 12 hours of training, which takes place from October – December, with the graduation ceremony taking place in March. Board matching interviews typically take place from Jan onwards.
What’s involved?
Expert-led training covering the fundamentals of arts board governance, board scenarios and strategies to succeed in the boardroom. Sessions are delivered by HM Chartered Accountants and Arts & Business NI.

Costs are payable only upon acceptance into the programme.
