Meet the Member- An Carn

We are so delighted to have An Carn join the A&BNI creative membership network. An Carn promotes a range of economic, social, cultural and environmental projects aimed at developing a prosperous and environmentally sustainable rural area.
Read on to find out more about them, their work and some exciting events and workshops coming up!

Hello! Introduce yourself, tell us a little bit about who you are and what your organisation does?

Hi I’m Madison and I’ve been the Arts Officer at An Carn since March this year. We are a community association based in rural Maghera and have been delivering a range of different projects for this rural community since 1992; with Irish language and culture at the forefront!

What’s your favourite thing about working for your organisation?

My favourite thing about this organisation is the community. No matter what event is going on there are always people that group together to help each other out. We just had our Samhain festival, which is a 2-day family friendly trail around our local nature reserve, Drumnaph (yes we also have a nature reserve at our doorstep), and we had 50 volunteers who: performed, created costumes and set designs, helped with marketing, catered, ushered and hung a million festoon lights. This tends to be a really stressful time, but everyone has such a great laugh together and it is such a successful event because of how much the community gets involved!

Do you have any exciting creative projects/events coming up that you’d like to tell us about?

We have quite a few Christmas events and workshops coming up for both adults and kids, check these out below:

Adults

Coppercraft Workshop With Donegal Coppercraft

Kids

FizzWizzPop’s “I can do magic too” workshop @ An Carn
FizzWizzPop Magic Show @ An Carn

We also have an exciting Show 9th & 10th January from Movers & Shakers. An Coire | 4 Days in Derry– 4 Days in Derry depicts the tragic events of Bloody Sunday through the eyes of the female relatives of 13 innocent victims shot dead by British Troops.

We have plenty gigs and new workshops coming up in the New Year so keep an eye out for these!

What are you looking forward to most about being part of the Arts & Business NI membership network?

We’re looking forward to building connections with new artists and organisations as it’s always exciting seeing what new things are out there for us to try and it’s important to keep our art programme exciting for the locals and also interest new people in visiting!
