We are thrilled to introduce our newest staff member Amira McDonagh who will be working on Arts Administration Support. We are delighted to have her on board! Find out more about why she joined us and what she's looking forward to in the blog below.
Hello! I’m Amira, the new Arts Admin Support at Arts and Business. I’ve been working in the Arts and Culture sector for over a decade, across the UK, N.I and Australia. I started by working for Live Nation whilst studying Fine Art at Cardiff Metropolitan University.
I have been lucky enough to work on amazing exhibitions, shows and events in places like The MAC Belfast, The ICC Belfast, Adelaide Fringe Festival, the Australian Centre for Moving Image and Melbourne International Comedy Festival.
Tea, always! And not just the breakfast kind; green, fruit, chai, iced, bubble, afternoon, I’m all about it.
I’m a visual artist so a lot of my time is spent painting/making, applying for opportunities or updating my website (www.amiramcdonagh.com)
When I’m not covered in paint or ink, I’m planning out my vegetable garden, walking along the coast where I live or watching a few shows – currently waiting on Yellowstone and Slow Horses to make their returns.
I went to the Ulster Museum’s Keep ‘er Lit late night event recently – it was soooo good! SO much going on in the museum and so well organised. I’ve been attending all of the wonderful workshops that Flax Arts Studios have been offering and even had time for Late Night Art in the East – I hope that’s something that continues!
Championing the Arts even more than I do already – Accessibility and Advocacy for the Arts are two of my passions and I look forward to learning what I can do to contribute to the sector more effectively.
Also, coming from an events background, I’m really excited to attend all of the Arts & Business NI events, meet all the members and soak up all of the expertise, I’m especially looking forward to the Cultural Governance Conference coming up soon in October. If you've booked your place, I'll see you there!
Arts & Business NI is generously supported by The Arts Council of Northern Ireland.
