Meet the Member: Hard Rain Soloist Ensemble

We caught up with our newest Arts Member, Artistic Director Aisling Agnew, from Hard Rain SoloistEnsemble. Hard Rain SoloistEnsemble is a world class group of musicians based in Belfast, dedicated to the performance of modern and contemporary music. Welcome to our network! We look forward to working with you to achieve your goals.

1. Hello! Introduce yourself, tell us a little bit about who you are and what your organisation does?

Hi! I’m Aisling Agnew and I’m based in Belfast. Having lived across the water for almost 20 years I love living back here in my home city with my daughter. I am a flautist and currently Artistic Director with Hard Rain Soloist Ensemble, Northern Ireland’s contemporary music group.

2. What’s your favourite thing about working for your organisation?

I love the music we get to explore. There are so many different styles within new music and so many demands, it pushes us all to be at our best. I also love the people, the Hard Rain musicians are a close-knit group of wonderfully talented people I’m lucky to work alongside. And I’m very proud of opportunities we’re able to give to local composers and performers, both here and internationally. Many of those just didn’t exist before and there’s so much musical talent here.

3. Do you have any exciting events coming up that you’d like to tell us about?

We’re looking forward to our Gallery music day at Ulster Museum on 1st June as before the concert that night, Hard Rain musicians will give pop-up performances every hour in different spaces throughout the museum. It's a wonderful way to encounter new music in one of my favourite places in the city. I’m also very excited for our International Women’s Day concert featuring electronics. We also have an exciting international performance coming up soon but that’s top secret for now! 4. What are you looking forward to most about being part of the Arts & Business NI membership network?

I’m looking forward to making new connections with people here. Like many artistic organisations in NI, we have far more creative ideas than funding to enable them, so I’m looking forward to learning from others, developing new strategies and sharing our work with others also.
